Research and Development

Constant investment in research and development is essential to the oil and gas industry. In partnership with universities, QGEP invests in research projects, in complete accordance to the requirements set by regulatory agencies. The Company constantly endeavors to direct R&D financial resources to actions that foster the development of new technologies. Thus, since 2011, it has carried out projects related to Environment, Geology, Geophysics and Reservoir.

Some of the most important projects include characterization and monitoring studies for ecosystems of the southern coast of Bahia - Una, Canavieiras, and Belmonte. The research projects involve integrated environmental studies aimed at generating applicable knowledge for the mitigation of environmental impacts caused by exploratory activities. This work has provided relevant data for the territory’s sustainable management. 

By diversifying the areas of projects for the application of production financial resources, QGEP has contributed – along with prestigious research institutions, such as Fundação Coppe/UFRJ, LAMCE / UFRJ, UFBA, UNICAMP/CEPETRO – in the advancement of knowledge in disciplines connected to hydrocarbons Exploration and Production activities. 

In addition, QGEP acquired a credit line nearby of R$ 253 million through Finep, in recognition of the innovation used in the early production system of the Atlanta field. The Company combined preexisting market technologies in an unprecedented way, rendering heavy oil production viable in ultra-deep waters in Brazil.  

Innovation is also promoted through participation in sector-specific  committees, seminars and dialogues with the academic sector, the National Organization of the Petroleum Industry (Onip), and the Industry Federation of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Firjan). Particular emphasis should also be given to the Company’s active participation in the Brazilian Institute of Oil, Gas and Biofuels (IBP), in different committees, as well as its involvement in coordination and other executive committees of, among others, the Brazilian Association of Petroleum Geologists (ABGP), the Brazilian Society of Geophysics (SBGF), the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), the Brazilian Institute of Financial Executives (IBEF), and the Brazilian Institute of Investor Relations (IBRI). In these forums, topics of interest for the industry are discussed, such as the segment’s technical and management evolution.
