QGEP quantifies and monitors its greenhouse gases (GHGs) emissions following the Petroleum Industry Guidelines for Reporting Greenhouse Gas Emission methodology ( Petroleum Guidelines) . These guidelines were developed by IPIECA (The Global Oil and Gas Industry Association for Environmental and Social Issues) in partnership with the American Petroleum Institute (API). The Petroleum Guidelines is based on the Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard (GHG Protocol).

In 2016, QGEP  achieved a B score from CDP, formerly the Carbon Disclosure Project, in performance and impact management  for 2015. Since 2012, the company has responded to its investors, through the CDP form, about its emissions inventory process. The organization, created 12 years ago in the United Kingdom, brings together over 700 investors and encourages the management of emissions in companies worldwide. In Brazil, several companies adhere to these guidelines and contribute emissions data to the report.

Currently, the Company  elaborates its GHG emissions inventory considering operational control and offices activities, with the assistance of specialized consultants. The dynamics of this process allows inclusion of new emission sources as QGEP’s operational activities  expand. Additional  information can be found in the "Annual Reports" section.

QGEP classifies GHG emissions in three different categories: Scope 1-) direct emissions from sources owned or controlled by the organization, Scope 2 indirect emissions from the purchase of electric energy consumed by the company and the Scope 3 other indirect emissions (emissions that are a consequence of the organization’s activities, but from sources that do not belong or are not controlled by the organization). Company considers the operational control approach, and in addition, calculates its energy intensity , indicator suggested by the new version of the G4 guidelines of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI).

Also in 2016, QGEP conducted a third party verification of its inventory. After the audit in 2015 based in the inventory report and in the emissions management specialized software, company received the verification certificate as per the specifications of the Brazilian Program GHG Protocol and ISO 14064-3: 2007. QGEP also decided by the association to the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program to promote a permanent culture of preparation of corporate inventories of GHGs.
