New data confirm importance of Carcará discovery in the Santos Basin pre-salt layer

Queiroz Galvão Exploração e Produção, a member of the Santos Basin Block BM-S-8 consortium, has confirmed a major pre-salt discovery, according to data from the Carcará prospect test well, located 232 km off the São Paulo state coast, in deep waters, at a depth of 2,027 meters.

So far, the Company has drilled a substantial 471 meter column of oil with an API gravity of 31º, more than 400 meters of which in microbial carbonates, where reservoirs with excellent permeability and porosity predominate. The data indicate that the reservoirs are connected throughout the column.

The well has currently penetrated to a depth of 6,213 meters and is still in the oil zone. The Company is continuing to drill in order to assess the total thickness of the column, as well as to investigate deeper objects.

"The results so far have exceeded our initial expectations and will have a positively impact on the potential of our asset portfolio, justifying our confidence in the recently acquired areas in the Santos Basin," affirmed Lincoln Rumenos Guardado, QGEP’s CEO.

The consortium, which is formed by QGEP (10%), Petrogal Brasil (14%) and Barra Energia do Brasil Petróleo e Gás Ltda (10%) and is operated by Petrobras (66%), is continuing with the activities and investments envisaged in the Discovery Evaluation Plan (PAD) approved by the Brazilian National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuel (ANP).
