Exhibition sponsored by QGEP is elected the best of 2012

Portinari’s War and Peace exhibition, sponsored by Queiroz Galvão Exploração e Produção was elected the best of the year by the Brazilian Association of Art Critics (ABCA), one of the most important Brazilian art prizes. The award ceremony was held on May 28 in São Paulo.

Portinari’s exhibition was on from February to April 2012 at the Latin America Memorial, in São Paulo. The works were created by Candido Portinari between 1952 and 1956, when the Brazilian artist painted his last two and largest works, War and Peace (14 meters by 10 meters, approximately). Both had been ordered by the Brazilian government to be given as a gift to the UN headquarters in New York. In December 2010, the works returned to Brazil to be restored at an open studio, in Rio de Janeiro. In 2012, the works began traveling, as a result of a partnership with Itamaraty, which intends to take War and Peace to several cities, including: Hiroshima and Oslo, on the occasion of the Peace Nobel Prize ceremony.

QGEP sponsors initiatives aimed at promoting access to Portinari’s works. The initiatives that comprise the War and Peace project supported by the company include the implementation of the Portinari Portal: an extensive websites that makes the artists’ works available free of charge, in addition to the traveling Art and Environment project and the Project maintenance.
