QGEP takes part in Joint Coastal Cleanup and Protection Project

Queiroz Galvão Exploração e Produção is one of the oil companies taking part in the joint initiative to contract a consulting firm to map the entire Brazilian coast. The survey, carried out between the northern and southern extremes of the country - Oiapoque (AP) to Santa Vitória do Palmar (RS) - was commissioned by 14 oil companies coordinated by the IBP, as part of a pioneering initiative.

The mapping of the coast includes information such as the physical, social and environmental characteristics (beach slope, type of ecosystem, coastal sensitivity index, etc.), information about accessibility, and more. The data will provide the foundation for preparing plans to protect and clean the coast in the event of spills, which is one of the items required by IBAMA as part of the individual emergency plans (PEIs), and may also be used as a tool for the National Contingency Plan (PNC).

During the course of one year, the selected consulting firm traveled the length of the Brazilian coast to collect the information needed to consolidate the study. Phase II of the Project is in the planning phase and is scheduled to begin during the first half of 2014.
